Artist, Designer and Architect

THE ART OF PLACE
Marios is an award-winning artist and architect with 36 years of experience.
His European background and extensive world-wide travels have influenced his development as a painter in oils and watercolor.

He graduated in architecture, with additional studies in art and architectural history at the University of Texas at Austin.

He has also studied the impressionist plein air art tradition of Provence in Aix-en-Provence. He is deeply inspired by the fine art and design traditions of the Ecole de Beaux Arts in Paris.

Along with his family, he has lived in Orange County, California since 1986.

His passion for drawing and painting since the age of 14 has evolved over the decades. There has always been a thoughtful contemplation with place, culture, history and culturally specific landscape and garden design. This fascination with “place” has always informed and influenced both his architectural designs, artistic predilections, and the conscious choice of subject matter.

There is also an emotional intensity in his work that makes it spontaneous and very personal. The paintings draw from the great tradition of impressionism and studies in oil.

Even though there is a deeply informed historic sensitivity to the composition and choice of setting, there is also a clear expression of the artist’s inner world and emotional responses to the powerful and unique places he reinterprets.

Immersive travel, when combined with an in-depth study of and thoughtful interaction with other cultures, are a fascinating source for deeply inspiring both art and design. They have been a catalyst, leading to the evolution of a creative process that is experimental and celebrates the joy of life, nature, and art.
